Bloomsday

I know this still some time away, but I was reminded that Bloomsday is Saturday 16th June by the Dublin Community Blog. I'm delighted it's on a Saturday this year - the Bloomsday Breakfast is held in North Great George's Street, very close to where I live.

If you're not familiar with Bloomsday, it's the day where James Joyce's Ulysses and his other works are celebrated in Dublin (named after Leopold Bloom, though my favourite character is Nora). Follow the link to see what activities are planned for this year.

I play tennis in Sandycove which is very close to the James Joyce Martello Tower so we always have a celebration...playing tennis in clothes of those days (not an easy feat)!

Beccy, I never knew that, thanks for letting me know. I can only imagine how impossible it must be to play in Edwardian costume! Fair play!

i would love to be in dublin for bloomsday! the last time we were in dublin my husband and i took the ulysses walking tour (out of irish times writer pat liddy's wonderful book of dublin walks).

i started reading ulysses last june on bloomsday and, aheam, i have not yet finished it. but i'm persevering. i find it a lot of fun, very confusing (i have to look all kinds of things up) and not a book i can just immerse myself in. so it's taking a while.

believe it or not, this website has been extremely helpful, silly though it is.
