Work shy

I was going to write an extremely witty and entertaining post today, but I'm wrecked after doing all my bits and pieces around the city this morning and then writing another 2000 words. I'm finding it tough to write that much every day to be honest, it feels too much like hard work. And I'm pretty work shy.

On a more positive note I sent out my parcel for Frannie's secret swap - it could be you! - and bought another book to read. Later I'm going to research some clothes shops to raid when I get to Chicago; I'm planning to spend a day hitting the Magnificent Mile and surrounds in search of bargains. May my suitcases be positively bulging and straining at the seams when I get back...if anyone has any suggestions on what stores to visit please let me know.

ooh i wish i had known about that secret swap thing; i'd totally have done it!

as for chicago, i don't know chicago specific store because i've never been, but if you're like most irish i know and are going to america for cheap clothes, and if you like The Gap, head to Old Navy. It's cheaper Gap clothing by the same company. And it's dirt cheap.

It's not the coolest place, but for staple-type clothing, it's fantastic. and i get compliments on my clothes all the time here (which is odd to me)and 99% of my stuff is from there.

have a great time!!! i can't wait to hear all about it.

Maybe Frannie will do it again - or it'll be like a blog carnival!

I forgot all about Old Navy, I love that store! I bought clothes from there yonks ago and they are still in great nick. I will be buying them out of staples as soon as I get there. Cheers!

Been to Chicago twice - but am not a shopper so can't make any recommendations. Sorry! Good art museum and decent aquarium though. Actually, the aquarium over looks the lake - nice spot. Have a great time!

The secret swap sounds fun. Be sure to tell us what you get!
Old Navy is great for cheap staples. Never been to Chicago either, but it looks fun.

Cheers Alfaking!

Anna, thanks for the recommendations. I don't like shopping for clothes either - I tend to do a big shop once or twice a year, just to get it over with. I go into a frenzy or hypnotic state and come out of it for enough clothes for another year. It's the best!

Angie, I will be taking photos of my secret swap as soon as I get it!

chicago's a great city. here's a suggestion: go to Marshalls. there's one downtown but i can't tell you precisely where; i walked past it a year or so ago.

marshalls is a chain that carries good clothes at a discount. lots of junk, but lots of good stuff, too, like jones new york and anne klein and even levis and calvin klein. shoes, coats, hats, socks, underwear, everything. it's my favorite place to shop because you never know what you're going to find, and things are cheap.

and i don't think this makes you shallow! we all have to wear clothes, now, don't we?

have a great trip. it's a fun town.

Laurie, thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it! It's idotic really to feel shallow about stuff like that, but it's a hang up I have.
