So - my previous post was a touch melodramatic, but like I have said many times before - this is my blog so I can cry if I want to. Or at least write about crying about it.
After the shellshock of the abrupt finish (during which I wrote the last entry, so it's actually a snapshot of the shellshock) I did some facebooking and texted quite a few of my friends. Well, if you can't bask in your own glory in a situation like this, when can you?
Then I grew bored. The four walls were closing in and I had another three days of nothing to do. It suddenly dawned on me - I hadn’t been able to read fiction while I was writing. Six long months. I grabbed The Great Gatsby and Catch 22 and headed out to Kehoe's off Grafton Street, ordered a pint and turned to page 1 of the former novel. And I really enjoyed it. When I met the Ours off the Luas at the top of Grafton Street I was in fine form. We went for a delicious meal and grabbed a bottle of champagne on the way home.
I am very, very happy.

:) what a wonderful post. :)
You finished the first draft of a novel, girl, you definitely deserve to be melodramatic, but I don't think you were. Enjoy the next three days, it sounds like you celebrated perfectly today.
Oh well done for finishing your first draft! What an achievement.
I too felt a bit like that when I suddenly and without warning found myself at the end. I finished around 85,000 when I thought it would be 100,000.(I've got lots to add in the editing though.)
Well done you.
Thanks Macoosh, I hope your big trip home went well!
Angie, thank you - I'm still on a high from it.
Helen, it took some time to realise that I had actually finished! Good luck with your editing, I'll be joining you soon!
Wow, that is some accomplishment, well done.
Congratulations! Glad you got into the mood to celebrate.
Thanks Beccy!
Beth, I am paying for my celebration now...but it was worth it!
Well done!
