Only my second day at work and I feel like I've been there for a month. Not in a bad way though; I think it's because I'm learning so much. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll get bored of it soon as it seems repetitive work, but for the time being it's all very new. They've had temps for five weeks now so my work area is surrounded by stacks of files that spew passive aggressive legalese, and the feepayer's entire office looks like a filing cabinet exploded in it. The lack of organisation shocks me, mainly because buying or selling a house is a stressful enough time for people without having important documents disappearing on the way. The last temp didn't seem to care that much, and at some point they have to trust that their secretary is sending out the right information.
I'm very busy without being stressed, which suits me down to the ground. I decipher inaudible sections of Dictaphone recordings, look up the spelling of weird names and addresses (plenty of them in Ireland), type frustrated letters thinly disguised with polite and traditional wording and file cheques worth hundreds of thousands of euro. I don't stay a minute longer than I have to, I take an hour lunch break and the people are seriously friendly. It's pretty sweet so far.
