Grown Up

Whoo what a weekend so far! The Ours and I drowned our sorrows at Aussie Dan's leaving party on Friday night. He's been living in Ireland for nearly nine years. Until his flight to Australia this evening that is. We'll miss him - he's a great friend, funny, kind and intelligent. Safe home Dan.

Chapter One is ten minutes walk from our flat but until Saturday night we'd never set foot in the place; their pre-theatre menu is incredibly popular. The restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star last year and I had to book two months in advance to see what the fuss was about.

And it lived up to the hype! The food was delicious and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere was a refreshing change to the traditional stuffiness that is often served up with food of this standard. If you happen to know what you're doing two months in advance, I'd recommend a visit!

After our meal we headed down to the Gate Theatre to see The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. We enjoyed the experience so much that we've decided to see every play at the Gate this year.

Then we went home and enjoyed a great bottle of red. How grown up of us.

Sounds a lovely evening much more civilised then our visit to a bar where the vodka tonic should be called vodka with a splash of tonic!

Lucky you, it sounds like a wonderful evening to me even though you have had to say goodbye to a good friend.

Ooh, sounds like a lovely weekend! I had no idea Chapter One was so popular, must keep that in mind as we're hoping to see The Weir in June.

Caroline we're hoping to go to see The Weir too, it's the first play The Ours and I saw together. 101 Talbot is great too, much cheaper than Chapter One but still delicious. We'll probably go to 101 Talbot next - can't afford Chapter One all the time!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Chapter One is definitely on my list of places to (save up for and) try. And we've been meaning to actually get off our backsides and see some theatre here...

Jen, it's well worth a visit. The Gate is a lovely theatre actually - not a bad seat in it.
