Hairy Edits

I've hit a rough spot with the edit that I'm trying to work through at the moment - which means I'm moving a lot slower than I'd like.

Having to analyse specifics (such as metaphors, dialogue and general word use) AND big picture concerns (like overall flow, character and reader interest) at the same time can be head-wrecking. But I'm keeping the head down and trying to have faith that it will all come together at the end.

I came across this website yesterday that cheered me up - Hairy Babies, an Irish t-shirt and hoodie company. Now, who's taking the horse to France?

Sending positive thoughts. You will do it and it will be excellent and this time next year you'll be telling us where to buy it. (not sure if my timing is right there. How long does it take to publish a book?)

Love the web site I want the county champion egg and spoon race t-shirt - LOL

Awh Alix thanks, your comment really cheered me up. I'll settle for some publishers/agents being interested in my book next year - that would be brilliant!

I love that website! Must restrain myself from buying though!

Nooo, I must stop shopping!

Best of luck with the edit. I'm in edit hell too. What I remember as great stuff, reads back like a load of pants.

Good luck with the edit :-) It sounds like a tricky phase but you'll be all the more proud of the result when you get through it.

I want the bag for the messages - that's a corker.

Helen, it's too tempting...

Debs, I hate edit hell. All the stuff I'm rewriting is driving me mad too!

Jen, I reckon I'll be as high as a kite when I've finished!

I showed the bag to The Ours and he looked completely confused - is "messages" an irish thing?

It's a Scottish and Irish thing, I think. The first time I heard it, in Scotland, I wondered what the heck my friend was talking about...

Jen, thanks a million for clearing that up. It was such a surreal moment when I told The Ours about the bag and he looked at me with total incomprehension - not unlike if I'd grown horns and a tail. I usually cop differences in slang but I would have sworn this was an English saying! You learn something new everyday. ;)

Hope things are going better for you today.

I love that website, methinks my credit card could be in for a battering!

Beccy, great to have you back! I'm staying away from that website as much as possible...but it's hard.
