The Machinations of a Writer without an Office

"I do love our little apartment," I said with a sigh, "but your commute is such a pain, you poor thing. Wouldn't you love to be a smidge closer to work?"

The Ours said yes, he supposed so, frowning at some delinquent code on his monitor.

"And wouldn't it be lovely to have a little more space? So that you didn't have to work in the living room?"

The Ours' eyebrow shot up to his hairline. "You mean YOU wouldn't have to work in the living room."

"I found a few nice places..." proceeding to bombard his IM with links, "Aren't they lovely, hmm? Ooh look at the kitchen in this one, black granite worktops and integrated appliances!"

"That does look nice-"

"Doesn't it? I called an Estate Agent earlier, so adorable on the phone, he's coming over on Tuesday to have a chat and a quick eye over the place -"

"Jaysus this one adds ten minutes to my walk!"

"Darling, big picture! I had a quick word with their in-house broker too, he's emailed a few forms, I'll just forward them now."

"What about the recession? The bottom falling out of the property market?"

"Recession reschmession. Oh and by the way we're going to a few viewings on Saturday, just for research purposes of course."

LOL, poor thing doesn't stand a chance. You go girl. I can see you getting that office space sooner rather than later.

And he's going along with this, is he?

Debs, I have my heart set on it!

JJ, kind of - the valuation and broker are free services and good info to know, and we love having a nose around other people's places...but when hard cash is required it'll be a different kettle of fish altogether!

Helen, it is! I love nosing around properties!

M&T thanks. T sounds like a cheeky mutt, shush him back! ;)

Angie it's the only way to get things done. ;)

Uh-oh. After going through the kerfuffle of buying a house 6 years ago I never want to do it again! I wouldn't mind some granite worktops though :o)

Good luck!

Karen, the horror of our first buy only two years ago is coming back - but our current place was a starter flat, and I want to get somewhere that we love and can settle in for a long, long time.

Ooh, potential house shopping is so much fun. Could you get one with a swimming pool? That would be so nice when I come to visit!

Jen, a swimming pool in deepest, darkest urban Dublin - I'd like to see that! There would be at least an inch of city scum floating on the surface. But you'd be very welcome to try it out for us ;)

Good luck on that! I liked that you moved him along quickly before he had time to formulate an argument about it. Very sneaky, I must try that some time :p

ps I love your new banner
