Splurge

One of the drawbacks of leaving the house is the inevitable splurging that accompanies it.

Saturday at the Maritime Festival I bought a teapot and cup in one from one of the market stalls. The teapot holds two cups worth of tea and keeps it warm while I'm banging away at my laptop. A writer's dream (or anyone who's too lazy to go to the kitchen).

On Sunday we went for a walk around the city centre and I picked up a few second hand novels from Chapters on Parnell Street: Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler, Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen and On Beauty by Zadie Smith.

Later I went to Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street and bought Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace (a novel so cult that you need two bookmarks to read it) and Ubik by Phillip K. Dick.

And today I'm on the lookout for a table and chairs set for our balcony. As the good weather has actually held here I've been daydreaming about writing and reading in the afternoon sun.

Well, I'd really like a picture of that teapot and cup in one thingy - purely in the name of research, of course.

"A novel so cult that you need two bookmarks to read it" OMG, what does that mean?

I've just lost my comment, such a nit.

I love the sound of your cups etc, they sound perfect for the shed. I need one now.

What perfect shopping, books, cups, tables etc. Just my thing.

JJ, it's almost like this one, but mine is pink and white pokadot:

The teapot fits ontop of the cup.

I need two bookmarks because it has so many endnotes that I keep having to switch from front to back!

Debs, I reckon it would be perfect for your shed!

I'm strangely drawn to teapots and cups too, and we're on the lookout for garden furniture. Not that the weather's very inspiring in that department! I want a nice, wooden bench I can loll about on wearing a floppy hat. For some reason.

Karen, I'm attracted to benches too, I wonder what that means? Unfortunately nothing like that, or anything I found today will fit on my balcony, so I'm still on the lookout.

Helen, I'm hoping to do some of it this week!
