So it took me longer to finish than I anticipated but at least the ninth story is done...just one more story to go.
Christmas was great, too great, as I completely overdid it in the food and wine department and have had nasty stomach cramps ever since. This never used to happen when I was in my twenties. I could eat and drink my own body weight, have a sleep in, and then repeat. My body can't keep up but sadly my mind still thinks it can.
I'm feeling better today though, just in time for New Year's Eve. Am I the only one who is left a little cold by it? I think it was Hugh Hefner who said it was amateurs’ night, and by God that man knows a thing or two about having a good time. (Get your mind out of the gutter.) The entrance fee charged by every pub is insult enough, but the scrum of bodies is enough to turn this five-foot-nothing short-arse into a nervous wreck. It's like restaurants on Valentine's day - which come to think of it is amateur night for couples.
When I was in my twenties I wouldn't have thought twice of paying for the privilege of drinking in a furniture-less, sticky-floored, BO-humming pub on New Year's eve, and then limping home for ten miles in my heels in the freezing cold because no taxis could be had. Nope, my friends and I will be safely holed up in a pub ten minutes walk from our flat. Actually fifteen minutes with a stop at the local chippers. Ah, the wisdom of old age.

Happy New Year! Looking forward to what the new year will hold for you.
The wisdom, eh? Friends are all you need I believe.
Hope you have a lovely New Year.
Well done finishing your story.
I laughed reading your post, as I completely know how you feel. Only a few years ago I would be so excited today and know exactly where I'd be going for the evening. Tonight, R & I are staying at home, and I'm looking forward to it.
Have a fab New Year & 2009.
Ah wisdom - so that's what it is!
I think we may be staying in, too. We're going ice skating in Winter Wonderland tomorrow and I can't face the thought of a hangover!!
Enjoy your evening and raise a glass to a successful year for all us bloggers :-)
I'm in sad agreement with the body not being able to keep up with the greedy mind...
New Year's Eve is for the young 'uns I reckon... Lovely bf and I are taking the little darlings out for an early pizza and, once I've driven home again, fully expect to be dribbling onto a cushion in front of the fire as 2009 get going.
Well done on the writing and Happy New Year!
Well done on finishing the story.
Happy New Year, hope 2009 brings you lots of nice things :)
Congrats on finishing your story!
Completely agree that it's an age thing. I don't like the after-pain any more:-)
Wishing you all the very best for 2009:-)
I'm a little late, but congrats on finishing the story. You're cracking away at it!
I completely understand needing a higher comfort level these days...Husband and I were completely lame and went to a nice dinner and movie instead of braving the bars. It was nice, actually. :)
Best wishes for the New Year!
