Done

I finished my fourth story today. It's too long, all over the place in parts and the descriptions need a lot of work, but it's finally done. It's a relief.

After yesterday's struggle I felt discouraged, so it took me a few hours to get started this morning. But today my typing just couldn't keep up. The ending suddenly became clear and I knew exactly what to say.

I have no idea how to increase the good days and reduce the bad ones. But I don't want to become one of those writers who wait for inspiration to hit them, like an invisible green light. I'd use it as an excuse to procrastinate rather than write. It has to be a job rather than a hobby, so I knuckle down every day regardless of whether I want to or not. And usually I become inspired after I've started, like today.

Good days always follow bad ones... Once you start writing and it goes...Nice you made it... Keep it up...

Congratulations! I think you are doing it exactly the right way. If you treat writing like a job and show up every day, your inspiration will start meeting you there. You can always go back and edit spotty writing.

That sort of day is so satisfying. I need to folllow your example and treat my writing like work, at the moment I just have too many other commitments and my writing time is suffering.

Alfaking, you're right, good days do seem to come and save you when you've given up.

Thanks Angie, that's why I gave up work for six months - because I knew if I kept working I'd just treat it like a hobby. I'm hoping that when I come back to work I'll have caught the writing bug.

Cheers Beccy! I think I got your flapjacks today, I found a missed delivery note in my letterbox...picking them up tomorrow!

Cathy, it sounds like you have a lot of commitments at the moment. I have so little so I have no excuse. I think family and loved ones should take priority.

Glad to hear you got your writing mojo back!

That sounds the same as writing essays and research papers - you feel like you have nothing to say until you start writing. It's only then you realise that you have actually processed the information you heard on a lecture or read in a book and turned into knowledge.

The same way, you form your story in your mind. Sometimes just sleeping on it can give you direction and bring you the right words.
