Ok.

I read my last post about shopping again just now, and realised how much of an empty-headed uncultured goon I came across, asking people about clothes shopping rather than the sights and tastes of Chicago. My toes curled at the thought of people reading it thinking: what a perfect example of a modern eejit, more interested in consuming than the culture of the city.

Then I wondered why it mattered. After all most of them haven't met me. And the ones who have know that I dress like a colourblind tramp who doesn't own an iron let alone a decent wardrobe, would rather spend money on booze than clothes and wears the same outfit every weekend while out on the town because all her other clothes are oversized jumpers and faded t-shirts. And has spent a week making a list of museums, parks and good restaurants to visit.

Then came the realisation - I'm so insecure that I can't stand the thought of one person out there thinking that I live and breathe retail, so I come out with the above 'excuse'. Sigh...

i never thought that; i just assumed you had all the other stuff planned. shopping isn't always in guidebooks. no biggie.

meanwhile, the new vanity fair has a page on shopping in chicago if you want to check it out.. thought of you when i read it.

...and if you're in oversized jumpers and faded t-shirts, def. go to Old Navy. they have the most comfy t-shirts around.

Thanks Macoosh! I'm hoping to pick up a few dressy things when I go over there too, seeing that jumpers and t-shirts are fantastic when slouching around, but not the best on a night out. Wearing the same outfit for three weekends on the town in a row...I need some new stuff, slouchy and dressy! ;)

i'm still reeling at the fact that you write 2000 words a day. that seems like a lot. i'd need something mindless like shopping after doing that.

Laurie, the only thing that I keeping me going is the thought of having nine days of not writing a word and just doing mindless stuff with my fella. Otherwise I'd be slacking off as usual.

The thing with us (I think) is that we're overawed by the shops on offer in the US. Shopping there is so different to here and so much cheaper!

I knew you were planning the culture bit as well!

We dress alike it seems. I like my crumpledcannotbebotheredironingisawasteoftime style anyway! Embrace it. Who needs fashion?!

I can't tell you how reassuring it is to know there's another woman with questionable fashion sense in the world - I personally have none - ask anyone who knows me - jeans and t-shirts - and the jeans often have rips and holes - as do the t-shirts.

AND - how many words?!

Beccy - you're right, the range and cheapness in the US boggles the mind.

Ariel and Anna, nice to meet fellow women who dress the same as me! I did 2000 words that day.
