This Crazy Writing Malarkey

Today I had one of those golden writing days, the ones where you start tapping on your keyboard and, hey presto, it's three hours later and you've written 1400 words. But here's the golden part - it felt like three minutes.

I had entered the The Writing Zone, that mysterious state where everything clicks into place and the scene just writes itself. It hasn't happened that often during the rewrite so it was a pleasant surprise.

(I put it down to the dodgy 80's music station. Its cheesy tunes lifted me to a higher state of consciousness.)

Yesterday was on the other end of the scale. I'd woken up with a scratchy throat, itchy eyes and a nose like a running tap. My hayfever, in previous years just a slight nuisance, had mutated into a three hundred pound gorilla on my back.

I spent the day sneezing violently, wheezing like a sixty a day smoker and trying to remove my eyes with my fingers (luckily with no success!) Needless to say I didn't get much writing done, and what I'd managed I deleted this morning due to it being utter gibberish.

That's such a great feeling when it happens, if only it was always that easy!

Bless you!!! Glad the hayfever's a bit better today.

I'm jealous. I haven't done any 'proper' writing for a couple of weeks. Tut.

Hayfever's a pain - I've been a bit sneezy myself the last few evenings, but nothing like as bad as yours.

Am very jealous of your writing zone experience. Haven't had one of those for AGES with my novel!

If only we could tap into The Writing Zone (hmm, sounds a bit Twilight Zone-ish) whenever we want. Ho hum. Hope the hayfever has relented and you stay in the zone! :)

Maddie, if only! The hayfever completely disappered today, thank god.

Karen, I have no excuse as writing is the only thing I have to do every day, and I still manage to avoid it sometimes! Hope the hayfever's better.

Calistro, they are so rare aren't they? Hope yours comes soon.

Angie I had the Twilight Zone music in my head when I was writing it!

Amazing progress. I've done nothing on the novel today due to the cryptosporidium crisis.

Helen, I'm so sorry that you're caught up in that. I hope things get sorted very soon.

Wow - what a place to go. Can I have a ticket please?

Keep it up.

JJ, thanks! It tends to happen when I'm writing a scene that I've imagined a few times.

I think I've forgotten what that 'zone' feels like. Well done you for 1400 words!!

Hope hayfever is better. Does it ease off when it rains? (know nothing about hayfever I'm afraid)

Lane, I'd forgotten what it was like too, a pleasant surprise! I think the hayfever does improve when it rains, but to be honest I don't really know, I've never really been this bothered by hayfever before. It's a large pain that's what it is!

M&T, that's exactly what it's like, I think it's happened to me once while exercising though! ;)
