When I staggered out of bed this morning, I cast a very hungover eye over the news headlines and was pleasantly stunned by the news that Ireland knocked Pakistan out of the Cricket World Cup. Apparently one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history, St Patrick is obviously a fan of the sport. Shame he couldn't work his magic to help Ireland win the Six Nations, but I think France deserved their win. And why would you put your hand to a few extra points if you can work a miracle?
But of course the Irish team didn't need a miracle at all as they played inspired cricket by all reports. Cricket is not a popular game in Ireland - many Irish people were unaware that Ireland were in the World Cup - but I hedge a bet that cricket fever will infect the nation and provide the Irish team with the mainstream support I think they deserve.
Had a great time yesterday but am paying for it now. Was worth it though!
*Update: if Ireland beating Pakistan wasn't weird enough, there are reports that England have dropped Freddy Flintoff after he was, allegedly, rescued from a capsized pedalo at 4am on Saturday. Paddy's Day strikes again!
