The dreaded weather

Wrote 2100 words today, which was enough to finish my eighth story! I’ll spend today and tomorrow planning the next story before the weekend.

I recently cancelled my membership with the gym, because I just wasn’t going anymore. I found that it took two hours out of my day which I couldn’t spare at first, as my writing schedule was all over the place. It was tough on my mothridden wallet too.

Unfortunately I’m one of those people who has to exercise, as I can’t get enough of good food and drink. Actually I don’t mind the bad food either, I often wake up to find the filet tower burger I was cramming into my mouth was a figment of my imagination. So Daisy suggested I just go for a brisk walk every day, which is was a fantastic idea as it gets me out of the house and keeps me fit.

However the new fitness regime coincided with absolutely horrendous weather here in Dublin. Every day for the past three weeks I’ve stuck my head out the door to witness a beautiful blue sky with a few white clouds. I enthusiastically throw on my exercise kit and head outside, heart filled with the joy of summer, until I realise that more clouds have gathered and some of them look quite menacing. Refusing to be put off by a few drops of rain, I set off. Five minutes later I am shivering in the cold wind and torrential downpour while struggling past sniggering pedestrians under oversized umbrellas. By the time I get home the sky is clear again, but I’m no longer impressed. I peel off my cold wet clothes and sulk in the shower.

I really need to go for a walk today, but it looks like the weather has grown tired of toying with us and is stuck on 24 hour misery. Sigh.

I hung my washing out 20 minutes ago, the sun was shining and it was warm. Within five minutes the heavens opened! I'm not going out in it to get it back in!

You're doing better than me on the exercise front, the weather is putting me off big time.

I've walk for exercise too and it can be lovely, especially for getting away from the desk, but the weather is a big factor: in the winter the rain puts me off too, but lately it's been so hot - about mid-90s - that you can't walk in it either. (sorry, not bragging!)

Beccy, I know what you mean, it's just not worth it!

Angie, to be honest if we had those temperatures here I'd be complaining too - I'm never ever happy.

hellojed, you need a good Helly Hanson rain suit and a pair of waterproof boots. then you can walk as long and as far as you want in the rain.

you can't properly walk with an umbrella. you need to be able to walk untrammeled, and really swing your arms and get everything loosened up.

i love my helly hanson. though when i was in ireland, it did make me stick out as an American, i think....

Hi Laurie, will look into your recommendations, thanks! Am sick of getting wet!

Just to clear it up though, I don't use an umbrella when I go for a walk, I have to dodge the other pedestrians' umbrellas though - very annoying!

Just arrived back drowned again, so I had a look at the Helly Hansen website. Those waterproof jackets are looking very very inviting right now. Thanks for the tip!
